Xiao Jinhua
Researcher
Dr. Jinhua Xiao is an Assistant Professor at Politecnico di Milano, Italy. He earned his Ph.D. in Engineering through a joint program between the Université de Technologie de Compiègne and ENS Paris-Saclay. He has published over 60 research papers, filed more than 10 patents, and contributed to the development of 3 industry standards. Dr. Xiao has been involved in the design and equipment development for early-stage waste power battery recycling production lines, where he resolved several key technical challenges. He currently holds memberships in several professional organizations, including the Smart Factory Professional Committee of the China Society for Graphics and the French Industrial Alliance, L'AFNeT. His primary research interests include human-robot collaboration, intelligent disassembly, and the application of artificial intelligence in industrial manufacturing. He teaches courses such as "Industrial Technology", "PLM", etc. Additionally, he serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Engineering Research and Sciences, Associate Editor of International Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems, Editorial Board Member of Control Engineering Practices, and Guest Editor for IET CIM and AMSE JCISE. He also actively reviews for numerous top-tier academic journals.

Research
Dr. Jinhua Xiao's research focuses on intelligent and sustainable manufacturing systems, primarily through two interconnected streams. The first centers on Additive Manufacturing (AM), where he investigates data exchange standards (like STEP-NC), information modeling, and knowledge reasoning to enhance the digital thread and predict part performance. The second major stream addresses sustainable remanufacturing and recycling, with a particular emphasis on electric vehicle batteries. His work develops intelligent disassembly planning using dynamic Bayesian networks, reinforcement learning, and Q-learning for task allocation in human-robot collaboration (HRC). He tackles the challenges of uncertain and dynamic disassembly environments to optimize resource recovery. His research integrates advanced AI, including graph neural networks and multi-agent systems, to create digital twin-assisted and cloud-edge collaborative manufacturing frameworks, bridging the gap between digital models and physical production for smarter, more efficient, and environmentally conscious industrial processes.
