In the fields of education and research, the DIG has pioneered the integration of content related to sustainable development and responsible management, and for several years now has been complementing more traditional academic activities with community service initiatives. It is also committed to promoting an inclusive and ethical working environment and good practices to raise awareness of our impact on the environment and society.

The Department contributes significantly to the University’s Strategic Sustainability Plan through coordinated actions within the POLIMI School of Management.

The university's plan outlines objectives within the six following priorities:

  • Inclusion and equal opportunities
  • Sustainable research
  • Sustainability in education
  • Right to education
  • Innovation and social responsibility
  • Environment

In our fields of education and research – management, economics, and industrial engineering – this necessarily entails a profound understanding of the ethical and social implications of scientific and technological progress, considering it an essential and obligatory approach.

Sustainability at the heart of our research

Among the various initiatives, the HumanTech – Humans and Technologies project holds great importance in the Department’s research and overall development.

This project aims to evolve the technological development paradigm, which has so far focused on maximizing economic outcomes, towards a more harmonious model. This new model takes into account human, social, and environmental variables, in addition to purely financial ones, thus fostering the transition towards new development models.

For the Department, this represents the most complete expression of how sustainability must be pervasive and a guiding principle for any project.
