Research
Irene Roda's research focuses on industrial asset management, maintenance engineering, operations management, digital transformation, and sustainability in both manufacturing and networked infrastructure sectors—particularly in the railway and energy distribution domains.
For over a decade, she has been developing methodological approaches and decision-support tools to manage the lifecycle of industrial assets. Her work stands out for its strong integration of academic rigor and practical relevance, with numerous collaborations with leading companies such as RFI, A2A, Ferrero, and MBDA.
Within this context, she has specifically explored the role of maintenance engineering and the analysis of the techno-economic performance of assets, with a focus on modeling and applying advanced indicators such as Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
She has also contributed to the development of decision-making frameworks and methodologies aimed at ensuring the strategic alignment of asset management processes, in accordance with the ISO 55001 standard.
More recently, her research has extended to supporting the evaluation of end-of-life strategies and life extension practices for industrial assets, with a view toward circular economy and sustainability.
